Smith & Wesson was founded by Horace Smith and Daniel B. Wesson as the “Smith & Wesson Revolver Company” in 1856 after their previous company, also called the “Smith & Wesson Company” and later renamed as “Volcanic Repeating Arms“, was sold to Oliver Winchester and became the Winchester Repeating Arms Company. The modern Smith & Wesson had been previously owned by Bangor Punta and Tomkins plc before being acquired by Saf-T-Hammer Corporation in 2001. Smith & Wesson was a unit of American Outdoor Brands Corporation from 2016 to 2020, until the company was spun out in 2020.[1]

As Samuel Colt‘s patent on the revolver was set to expire in 1856, Wesson began developing a prototype for a cartridge revolver. His research pointed out that a former Colt employee named Rollin White held the patent for a “bored-through” cylinder, a component he would need for his invention. Wesson reconnected with Smith and the two partners approached White to manufacture a newly designed revolver-and-cartridge combination.[4] After Wesson left Volcanic Repeating Arms in 1856, he rejoined Smith to form the Smith & Wesson Revolver Company which would become the modern Smith & Wesson company.[5]

I have had mine about 2 years. When I first got it, I notice that there were some issues with reliability, with the first 200-400 rounds. After that it has been a flawless rifle, and I’m well into the thousands of rounds through it. Somewhere between 4000-5000. I think the reliability issues came from the sharp angles on the hammer-face. Once I shot it more it smoothed it out a bit, and it stopped catching. I will be buying more from PSA. They made me love the AK design. I have used ak’s before but never owned one until this rifle. I admit I buy a lot of Gucci guns, so I’m really happy PSA has delivered a product that encourages me to give the cheaper brands a chance

Small but a worthy companion. Very concealable, light, precise, low recoil and muzzle flip, easy to handle. My wife absolutely love it.

No regrets at all, this is a great gun.
It might be nice if the grip safety depressed flush to the backstrap. The pointy top dug into my palm just a little bit at first, but I quickly adjusted and don’t feel it at all anymore. Fantastic sights and trigger on the Performance Center model.

Anyone can rack this quickly and dismantle the gun for cleaning. Shots easily especially with 50 gr ammo.

Didn’t buy from palmetto but this pistol is awesome. Bought more for the wife but son loves shooting it too. When the 9mm comes out in performance model will purchase that one too. Only thing when I bought it was sights were off but being adjustable got it to shoot accurately.
